My daughter went through the “why” phase for a while when she was 3. I do my best to answer them because it’s a fun game. She’s trying to learn, and I’m here to teach her. At one point we got to the topic of our dog and she was like “Why is he a dog”
That one stumped me for a while before I hit her with “because his parents are dogs”. And then she went right for the “who are his parents” and that spun off into questions about dog breeding and how they used to all be wild wolves… It’s fun.
Dogs are the best. Who fucking knows what they are thinking. A friend of mine has a dog who isn’t really food driven, but do you know what he fucking loves? Raw baby spinach leaves. Ohhh boy, if you open a bag of spinach in front of that dog, you best be giving some to him. Funny little creatures they are. All of them with their own quirks. But all of them the best.
And God forbid I gently blow on my dogs face. This is akin to waterboarding for him. But he will happily stick his head out of a car window at full speed.
I don’t always understand why dogs are the way they are, but I sure am happy that they are.

I feel like this is something left out of pretty much every survival video game. You have to figure out how to get food and water etc, but you never have to dig a hole to shit in. It is part of being alive.

Giving birth. In movies and TV shows it’s always this sudden thing. Like “My water broke! The baby is coming!” then there is some pushing and screaming and bam, baby. In reality, having a baby takes many many hours and often times days, even with induced labor.
From what I’ve heard, wallpaper is making a comeback and I’m here for it. I’m not talking about your grandmother’s vertical flower print stuff. I’m talking all the colors and all the designs. The possibilities are endless. I particularly like some of the art deco stuff. It’s awesome. PC gamers already have PCs, and console gamers don’t want to spend $1000 on a console-PC. That seems to be the general vibe. It’s not looking great.
The Steam Deck came in at a competetive price, and a handheld form factor, those two things made it a success.
I would say pretty much wedding I have been to in the past 10 or so years has had a no phone/camera policy during the ceremony. Before the ceremony starts, the officiant comes to the mic and reminds everybody and let’s them know their is a professional photographer and everybody will get to see the photos online later.
The rest of the wedding? Go wild. We actually had some app with a QR code that guests could scan when they arrived. Then between 5pm and 10pm (or whatever the time of the wedding was) - any photo they took was uploaded, and we got to see all of the photos everybody took plotted on a time line. If you didn’t want to use it, fine with me, I know how people are with privacy. But I thought it was cool.
This is actually a very valid take, and I didn’t think of it this way. Man, what a complicated landscape AI has made. Pandora’s box certainly has been opened.
I think publishers realized this a while ago which is why pre orders usually come with a free skin, or early access, or something like that.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think pre ordering a digital item is stupid as hell, but there are definitely people in the boat of “I’m 100% going to buy it no matter what, and this gets me the game a week early” - so for them it makes sense.
Weird. Monthly updates used to be pretty harmless with a bunch of little bug fixes that really only affected a few people. Then AI came out, and in the past 6 months or so every patch Tuesday has been a complete disaster. It’s almost as if they laid off a bunch of engineers and now have the remaining ones just vibe coding shit while using the same LLM to do code review and everything is going to hell. Not that it was a phenomenal product to begin with, but when you have engineers vibe coding patches for such a delecate platform, it’s going to end in disaster.
