The Steam Deck has revolutionized this for me. I was always too tired to sit upright at my desktop and game after we got the kiddo to bed. Now I can lay in bed and play my PC games. I’m finally working through games I never thought I would get to.

If I go to sleep now I’m going to wake up to a toy being shoved in my face and “play with me mummy” or a screaming kid from a nightmare. If I stay up an extra hour I get to be by myself for an extra hour.

      Either way I’ll be tired.

Not much choice there, I’ll stay up and be more sleep deprived.

Worse, if you try to minimize sleep to maximize your day then your body and mind suffer.

Though there are some natural “short sleepers” that can get a full night in 5 hours. That’s definitely not me!

Do you happen to know if there’s a category of sleepers who go a month or so only needing 5 or 6 hours then a month or so needing 9 or 10 hours? Because I feel like I fit into this odd category.

Yeah, but you’ll wake up later and possibly more tired. And if you stay longer, you’ll get tired pretty fast and will not be as productive.

    No winning this.

A few times after sleeping well, I can actually wake up in the morning and get significant things done involving an outing for breakfast, and feel like I’m midway through my day at a time I’d usually be waking up. It’s hard to build up to that point though.

I lived like this most my life, but with kids this breaks down completely. The only time noone is bothering you - kids or coworkers - is at night.

          In this economy??

Fabricated poverty and homelessness, medical and educational debts, corporate greed and consumerism, accumulating environmental issues that nobody with the ability to make change is willing to pursue, non-stop wars, political turmoil…

I don’t know. I think the dead have it better.

Imagine a world where everyone goes to sleep as soon as they are done with work, and saves their groggy end-of-day hours for work. Unfortunately, society has chosen the opposite.

Me and a friend drank some stuff(just alcohol) at his place before we went to the club at 11pm. After we arrived I drank about 1 vodka-RedBull every 2 hours so I didn’t fell asleep and that’s it. No illegal drugs. We left when the club closed it’s doors at 8am.

I had the chance to get some weed, but as a non smoker the attempt to smoke didn’t end very well. For the rest I prefer to not mix drugs with alcohol(which also is a drug), since I don’t want to explore what effect mixed drugs have.

as a non smoker the attempt to smoke didn’t end very well.

Ouch!!! Yeah I remember my first time. I was in uni and two older girls (rocker girls) shared some weed with mine and my friends ‘fresher’ selves.

I’d done bongs up to that point cos I was very anti-smoking. But I asked to try a spliff and dragged on it - COUGH!! “Cough” doesn’t do it justice!!! It felt like I was gonna vomit my fucking lungs and soul!! EVIL!! Fucking evil and to make it worse the two girls screamed “VIRGIN LUNGS, VIRGIN LUNGS!!!”.

Any sense of pride quickly evacuated as I recovered on the FLOOR spitting and hacking like my life depended on it. I don’t think they were “mean” - they just found the first toke - and reflex (virgin lungs), hacking like you’re dying - funny. :/

Anyway after that first time my lungs seemed to be adapted. Even with long breaks I’ve never had a moment that bad so I think your brain or lungs just get used to it.

If not “mixing” have you done any other drugs besides alcohol? I only ask cos I’m a former addict so was gonna go on a long philosophical journey but thought I’d better ask before I make any assumptions!!! 😂

              P.S. I’m not anti-drugs. I’m pro legalisation with caveats. ;)

Luckily it wasn’t that bad for me. I just had to cough a lot and recoverd relatively fast.

Also, no so far I haven’t tried other drugs except alcohol.
