Unfortunately, it was never going to end up any other way. Israel, despite oppressing the Palestinians and being a shit ally, remains a sacred cow for 4/5s of our politicians.

On the bright side, this means that Republicans may have to stop playing hardball with Ukraine, in order to not appear hypocritical.

Most support Ukrainian support, and most Western countries need Israel as a foothold in the middle east.

You are making the bold assumption that Republicans give a damn about not appearing hypocritical.

Depends on who you ask, there’s 50 Senators and 221 House Representatives on the Republican party.

Despite the substantial erosion of decorem on the right, there are still some who operate with civility and reason, though they are not as vocal as they should be.

Before you respond with semi-justified cynicism, it’s not an assumption. Republicans know they’d align mostly with Democrats on Israel.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. has already begun delivering critically needed munitions and military equipment to Israel, the White House said Monday, as the Pentagon reviews its inventories to see what else can be sent quickly to boost its ally in the three-day-old war with Hamas.

John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, confirmed Monday evening that the first batch of military aid in the wake of the violent assault by Hamas militants is “making its way” to Israel.

Also on Monday, a senior Defense Department official warned that the U.S. is closely watching Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed groups, noting that the decision to shift American ships in the region was to deter any of them from entering or expanding the conflict against Israel.

On Capitol Hill, both Republican and Democratic lawmakers expressed support for Israel, although immediate congressional action was virtually impossible with the House remaining without a speaker and the Senate out of Washington until next week.

Wormuth, speaking at the annual Association of the United States Army conference in Washington, said the administration is still “in the early stage of the process of evaluating our ability to support what the IDF needs,” referring to the Israel Defense Forces.

The USS Gerald R. Ford, the Navy’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, and its approximately 5,000 sailors and deck of warplanes will be accompanied by cruisers and destroyers in a show of force that is meant to be ready to respond to anything, from possibly interdicting additional weapons from reaching Hamas and conducting surveillance.

They used to just say they were in favor of a Jewish state. Now that they have it, they say they need more Palestinian land so they take more land and say that when they do it, it’s holy.

To be clear, from your post history, your positions are:

        • Ukrainian Nazis are right to fight Russia.

        • There’s no excuse for Hamas.

        Is that accurate?

It’s important for the US to make a showing of strength and support for Israel. Doing so deters other actors from getting involved in the conflict. If allies of Hamas decide to join the conflict, it escalates quickly into a region-wide bloodbath. Projecting US power decisively and quickly is the best deterrence against escalation.
